The Citizens Police Academy is designed to teach citizens about the policies and procedures that govern the Oak Creek Police Department’s mission to protect life and property, preserve peace, and enforce the law while making Oak Creek a safe place to live, work, and enjoy recreation.
This 10-week academy is designed to give participants a comprehensive understanding of the policies, procedures, and day-to-day operations of the Oak Creek Police Department. The course typically begins in mid-January and runs 6:00 – 9:00 PM on Wednesday nights.
Schedule:
Each week highlights a different aspect of police work, featuring presentations and demonstrations from specialized units.
- Week 1 – Welcome, Dispatch, Department History and Tour
- Week 2 – Squads, Police Equipment, Drones, and Crime Trends
- Week 3 – Vehicle Contacts and Radar/Laser Speed Detection
- Week 4 – Investigations, Crime Scene Processing, and School Resource Officers
- Week 5 – Defense and arrest tactics (DAAT) and Taser
- Week 6 – Operating While Impaired
- Week 7 – ERU (Emergency Response Unit) and CNU (Crisis Negotiation Unit)
- Week 8 – Human Trafficking and K9
- Week 9 – Firearms
- Week 10 – Practical scenarios and Graduation
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older at program start
- Applications accepted on a first-come, first-served basis
- All participants are subject to a background check
