North Bluff Revetment and Stabilization Project

Post Date:06/28/2024 9:07 AM

The North Bluff Revetment and Stabilization project has been under construction since the fall of 2023, with the completion scheduled for later this year. This project aims to create a stable slope by planting deep-rooted native plants along the bluff face. These plants are expected to help stabilize the soil and prevent erosion, ensuring the long-term health and stability of the bluff.

One of the key funding sources for this important project is the Green Solutions Program, which is provided by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District. This funding agreement is not just a one-time financial boost; it includes a commitment to long-term maintenance, ensuring that the project remains effective and sustainable for years to come.

Ecological Restoration Services

To ensure the successful establishment of native vegetation on the site, the services of a qualified ecological restoration company with relevant experience have been authorized. The City of Oak Creek Engineering Department took proactive steps by requesting proposals from qualified ecological restoration firms. Firms were invited to offer their professional native vegetation management services to manage and maintain the native vegetation on the bluff.

On June 18, the Common Council took a significant step forward by authorizing the Engineering Department to contract with Midwest Prairies LLC. This company has been selected for its expertise in ecological restoration and native vegetation management. Their role will be crucial in ensuring that the native plants are properly established and maintained, contributing to the overall success of the project.

The completion of this project is scheduled for later this year. With the combined efforts of the City of Oak Creek, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District, and Midwest Prairies LLC, the North Bluff Revetment and Stabilization project is set to create a more stable and sustainable environment for the community.
