Post Date:08/27/2025 3:05 PM

Oak Creek, Wis — August 27, 2025 — The Oak Creek Fire Department enhanced its water rescue equipment inventory thanks to the We Energies Foundation and its Rewarding Responders Grant.

On Wednesday, August 27, the department showcased several pieces of life-saving water safety equipment it purchased, including PDFs, water boots, helmets, and signs for public awareness.

“We have a long-standing relationship with We Energies. Through the generosity of the WE Energies foundation, we are able to purchase needed equipment that sustains our program and allows us to fulfill our mission.  We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our community and this Rewarding Responders grant. Together we’ve been working toward a common goal of keeping those in Oak Creek safe,” said Oak Creek Fire Chief Michael Kressuk.

The Oak Creek Fire Department was one of 54 public safety agencies across Wisconsin to receive a grant in 2025.  “It is our honor to help first responders across the state acquire the equipment they need to keep themselves and the community safe,” said Amy Plato, We Energies Manager of Gas and Electric.

Oak Creek Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Mallas shared what the new equipment means for the department. “Oak Creek is very fortunate that we have a beautiful lakefront, but with that beauty comes the risk associated with it. These resources will help strengthen our prevention efforts. It’s truly an investment in saving lives, and this impact will be felt by thousands of residents and visitors to the City of Oak Creek.”

Since 2020, the We Energies Foundation has handed out $500,000 to agencies across the state as part of its Rewarding Responders Grants.
