New Fire Station #2 Moves Forward with Unanimous Common Council Approval

Post Date:02/17/2026 6:34 PM

Oak Creek, Wis–February 17, 2026–The City of Oak Creek is one step closer to building a new fire station to replace Fire Station #2. On Monday, February 16, the Common Council unanimously approved a motion to have Kueny Architects, LLC, begin providing architectural design and engineering services.

The City received nine proposals, and the City Engineer, the Fire Chief, and two Fire Department administrative staff reviewed each submission.  An additional four members from the Fire Department were then brought in to do in-person interviews with the three highest-ranking firms.

“We based our decision on several factors including the firm’s experience, understanding of the project, the clarity of their approach, overall cost, ability to meet the proposed schedule and references from past clients. And based on this criteria Kueny was at the top of our list,” said Oak Creek Fire Chief Michael Kressuk.

Kueny Architects is based in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin and has completed over four million square feet of government projects across the Midwest in the last 34 years.

This contract for $130,863 covers four phases of the project: pre-design, design services, bid services, and construction oversight.

“The old Fire Station #2 was built in 1965 and is not only costly to maintain but no longer meets the City’s modern operational needs,” said Andrew J. Vickers, Oak Creek City Administrator.

Priorities for the proposed 9,500-square foot station include a 3-bay apparatus floor with a drive-through configuration, a possible community/training room, a fitness area, and individual dorm rooms. The station will be designed to anticipate future growth and to accommodate up to 6 firefighters per day.

“It was clear from the beginning that we need a functional station that is designed to reduce turnout times and places an emphasis on the health and wellness of our employees,” said Chief Kressuk.

Construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2027, and it should be finished by early 2028.
