For brothers Travis and Shane Garski, opening a business in Oak Creek wasn’t a question of if, but when. Years ago, while living in the Emerald Row apartments in Drexel Town Square, they passed a vacant storefront in Drexel Town Square almost daily; never imagining it would one day become their own. Both grew up in South Milwaukee before their family moved to Oak Creek.

The duo has spent years collaborating on everything from website development to virtual marketing and event photography. Eventually, their shared passion for technology and visual storytelling sparked an idea: a brick‑and‑mortar camera and audio/video equipment shop. In April 2024, that idea became Impulse.

The name fits. “I’m pretty risk‑averse,” Travis admits, laughing, “and Shane is definitely more impulsive. After a trade show in Chicago, he convinced me we needed to open the store, and I said we should call it Impulse.” Shane adds that for many creatives, new gear is an impulse, something that inspires new possibilities. “When someone walks in asking about a camera or drone, we take it out and learn together.”

Transforming the empty space into a fully realized shop became a community effort, with friends and family helping lay floors, paint walls, and build displays. Today, Impulse is not just a retail space, but a hub for Oak Creek’s creative community. Customers visit from across the region to test gear and take portraits around the neighborhood. The chance to get hands-on experience and talk directly with knowledgeable creators sets Impulse apart for many customers.

Impulse also offers a membership-based Elite program which includes discounts, rentals, lens cleanings, and various creative resources.

Located in the heart of Drexel Town Square, Impulse continues to grow alongside the community that helped build it and invites everyone to experiment with and follow their creative impulses.
