The Engineering Department is responsible for the design, inspection, and administration of public works improvements within the City. The department handles most engineering needs and services in-house; including design, field survey and construction inspection. It also manages all land development activities from the drafting of development agreements, plan review, construction inspection, and certification and final acceptance of public improvements. Other department functions include traffic safety including road and intersection capacities and conditions; and environmental projects such as storm water management, enforcement of erosion control standards, landfill closures, site remediation, and the preservation of wetlands and flood plains.

Root-Pike WIN is a grassroots collaborative engaged in the activities listed here to meet its mission to protect, restore and sustain land and water resources in the Root River watershed, Pike River watershed and near shore Lake Michigan.
