Encouraging Safety through Education and Empowerment
The Women's Self-Defense Class instructs participants on situational awareness and provides practical techniques to improve their safety. By first focusing on awareness, participants learn how to stay aware of their surroundings, remain vigilant, and avoid situations that can pose a danger. The course also provides instruction on verbal tactics to fend off potential assailants, escape techniques, and, finally, physical defense techniques that can be used against an assailant. In addition to classroom instruction, this course provides hands-on practice that will increase the skills and confidence of the participants. While participating in the hands-on portion of the class is not required, most participants find that the encouragement of the instructors, the support of fellow participants, and the ability to practice these skills in a safe environment creates a rewarding, empowering experience.
The course is open to all females 17 and older who are living, working or attending school in the City of Oak Creek.
